I read an interesting post recently on really creative resumes and I poured cold water on the idea. Show your creativity in your portfolio I was thinking. (Many apply but few show their portfolio of course).
I was even politely invited to reconsider whether creative resumes made sense for some kinds of jobs. Nah, I did not relent…often wrong but never in doubt.
Then today I saw this video resume and it really made me think. This was a terrific way for job seeker Alec Biedrzycki to showcase skills, creativity and personality. I particularly appreciated the Twitter and blog links within the video. It’s making me rethink first impressions, and how easy it is to dismiss people based on a resume, without ever getting a sense of who they really are.
