Are you betting your career on the wrong industry?

My friend Gary asked me, "How did I let this happen?" He had just been fired from his job, but I knew he had been worrying about losing it for many years. When he called, he told me that he had been "off his game" over the past 6 months, "I was so worried about losing my job that I ended up making stupid mistakes."

After a lifetime working in his industry, and a decade of success in his current role, he was cut loose after a 6 month dip in his performance. He only blamed himself.

But he was wrong.

Gary was not the problem. He was simply a good guy, working in a declining industry.
