Jim is the HR director at a major professional association. He called to tell me that one of his department managers had suffered yet another resignation on their team — the third in a year. (Luckily it was not one of our placements, but that was probably just a matter of time.)
I asked him how long they planned to allow that problem manager to remain in place. “You know how Georgia is,” Jim complained. “She’s been running that department for years. Our CEO will never replace her. She has been here for decades, and besides, she’s only a few years from retirement. We’ll just need to find people who can work around her until she leaves.”
Yup, a lot goes on at work that is not about the work.
