Reading all this job search advice can be overwhelming and intimidating. Don’t you wish you had someone who could help you out, in person? Well Monica O’Brien wrote a great post a few months back about how to keep a mentor. Here are 3 of those tips:

  • Know how to separate friends from mentors. Friends go to parties with you. Mentors give professional advice.
  • Give the mentor feedback. Did you take their advice? How did it work out? Tell them. Keep them informed.
  • What do they get out of it? A mentor will spend a lot of time helping you. So you need to make it beneficial for them. How can you help them with their goals/needs?
